Johnny was born and raised in Tampa Florida. Johnny was one of six children, he had 3 sisters and 2 brothers. It was at a young age that Johnny realized his obsession with auto racing. His hero was AJ Foyt, and his car number was 14 which is why he decided that when he could race his number would also be 14. When Johnny was in his teens he started racing go-karts and was successful winning multiple championships. When Johnny turned 18 he graduated to super modified and sprint cars at the famed Golden Gate Speedway, Phillips Field, Dade City raceway and Tampa fairgrounds. At the young age of 19 Johnny served his country in the Vietnam doing two tours of duty. Once he returned home he immersed himself back into racing and would try his hand at late models on both dirt and asphalt but his heart had always been in open wheel cars. After he decided to start his own family he decided to build his own southern modified where he completed in Florida at Eastbay Raceway, Golden Gate speedway, Lake City Raceway, and Ocala Speedway wining many feature events and multiple track championships. Johnny was known as The "outlaw" because not only was his name involved but he was a fierce competetor however he was a gentleman racer. He was a friend to many on and off the track and a mentor to many more. Johnny passed away in 2006 from cancer and his son and family continue to race in his honor.
